Queen Lear - a Shakespeare reimagining - is coming to Bristol this December

Theatre company The Scullions is bringing its latest production to Bristol in a tour of venues across the South West.

 

Queen Lear - a reimagining of Shakespeare's Lear - will arrive at the Alma Tavern and Theatre for two nights on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 December 2021.

 

The production puts a modern spin on The Bard's classic political thriller, switching the character's genders in a modern exploration of treacheries within a family, fears around aging, and how blind we all can be to the reality we live in.

Built by a team of passionate actors and theatre-makers, Queen Lear is an emotionally charged production that champions strong women and vulnerable men.

 

The dark and accessible performance will showcase The Scullion's crop of homegrown talent, giving budding and driven stage actors a chance to shine.

 

The company has previous in reimagining classic Shakespeare tales in an exciting and accessible fashion, having retold and performed Othello and Antony and Cleopatra to acclaim.

 

A spokesperson for The Scullions said in a statement: “We love to work with the Alma and to be bringing this new epic production to the vibrant audiences of Bristol feels momentous.

 

"Particularly after such a prolonged period of absence, it’s a joy to see theatres coming to life again and truly special to be a part of that.”
