Canadian indie band, The Dears, will return to Bristol this November

Posted on: 26 Oct 2021

One of Canada’s most cherished indie rock staples will be playing at The Exchange on Tuesday 23 November 2021.

Cult band, The Dears, are heading to Bristol next month as part of a short tour supporting their latest album: Lovers Rock.

Tickets for the gig on 23 November can be found on See Tickets.

Formed in 1995, the Montreal band have had a fluid cast of members over the years with the consistent members being the iconic husband-and-wife duo, Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak.

A charismatic frontman, Lightburn embodies the dark, sleazy nature of the band’s brooding chamber-pop and his vocal performance has been likened to several esteemed singers – including Morrisey, who the band supported in 2004.

After the release of their debut album, End of A Hollywood Bedtime Story, in 2000 the group garnered a great deal of interest in Canada and beyond and, as well as Morrisey, The Dears have opened for bands such as The Secret Machines and Keane.

During their twenty-six-year career, The Dears have put out eight albums to date and been nominated for multiple Polaris Prizes - their most recent record, Lovers Rock, was released in 2020.

Known for their signature look of black suits and white shirts as well as their atmospheric and orchestral pop noir, the outfit have not played a show in over five years.

The cult band’s long-awaited trip to The Exchange as part of their upcoming tour will be eagerly anticipated particularly due to the fabled theatricality of their feverish live shows.

The Dears’ Bristol show is the opening gig of their Lovers Rock tour, a year after its release. The November dates see the band head to Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester, Cambridge and London.

Tickets for The Dears’ show at The Exchange, Bristol, are £15 and can be purchased on the event webpage.
