IDLES offer 2,000 free gig tickets to NHS workers

The Bristol-born band are headlining a huge day of music on The Downs in September.

IDLES have announced plans to offer local NHS workers 2,000 free tickets to their outdoor homecoming concert on The Downs on Friday 3 September.

Revealed today (Wednesday 28 July) and put together by celebrated Bristol promoters Team Love and Simple Things, the full lineup features a vibrant mix of live music and DJs, topped by IDLES themselves.

NHS staff based in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are expected to be contacted in the coming days with a sign-up form to access tickets, and can also register manually here by submitting a name and NHS email address.

Revealing the ticket giveaway across their social media channels, IDLES said:

"We know it's not much, but it is a gesture of our thanks to you for your incredible work and selflessness over the last 18 months in treating and caring for people at the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic."

Organisers have confirmed that NHS staff who had already paid for tickets can get in touch with Team Love via email to secure a refund.

As well as an unmissable IDLES live performance, fans can expect stellar sets from the likes of Anna Meredith, Working Men's Club and TV Priest, as well as a selection of revered Bristol-based acts including Heavy Lungs, Grandma's House and Slagheap.

The dance-focussed Centre Stage is set to host a full day of forward-thinking electronic music courtesy of Paranoid London, Giant Swan, Grove, Nuha Ruby Ra and Kayla Painter.

Widely regarded as one of the most exciting bands coming out of the UK right now, IDLES' stock has been constantly on the rise since they emerged in Bristol in the mid-2010s.

Following on from the huge success of their first two albums, Brutalism in 2017 and Joy as an Act of Resistance a year later, IDLES' most recently released their huge third record, Ultra Mono, which reached Number One in the UK Albums Chart.

Despite the album's success, however, the band have been unable to play it live amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, forced to push their sold-out UK tour back to 2022.

Their first hometown show in more than two years will take place on The Downs on Friday 3 September in front of a capacity crowd of 10,000, open to attendees from 15:00 to 23:00.

For more information, to browse a full lineup or to book your tickets, head to the IDLES on The Downs website.
