Bristol City 2021/22 Championship fixtures revealed

Posted on: 08 Jul 2021

The Robins are hoping to realize their Premier League dream in boss Nigel Pearson's first full season in charge.

A full fixture list for the upcoming 2021/22 EFL Championship season has been released and pre-season is in full swing, starting with a visit from Celtic - a side emphatically dethroned by Steven Gerrard's Rangers last season.

Off the back of signing a three-year contract extension of his own, Robins boss Nigel Pearson has bolstered his squad with new signings such as Andy King, Rob Atkinson, and Matty James, who will no doubt be looking for a fast start at their new club.

After finishing a disappointing 19th in last season's Championship campaign, City will be hoping to regain the form that has helped them to push for the play-off positions in recent years.

And, for the first time since March 2020, there will be fans to help get them there. At last, the home stands will be roaring with the sound of a capacity crowd again as the relaxation of Covid-19 related restrictions finally allows the 12th man back.

Bristol City kick off the new campaign at home to Blackpool on Saturday 7 August at 15:00, before immediately getting their first taste of knockout football against Forest Green Rovers just three days later in the Carabao Cup.

A trio of tough fixtures against promotion rivals Middleborough, Reading, Swansea, and Cardiff follow, presenting the first real test of the squad's promotion credentials early on in the season.

The Robins face Fulham, the first of the three opponents relegated from the Premier League last season, on September 25, adding to an already tough start to the campaign.

The Robins will be hoping that this is the season the agony of the near-misses of recent years is put to bed, but this remains to be seen.

The playoffs are scheduled to take place in late May 2022, and City will be hoping to make their first appearance in the final since 2008 - unless they achieve automatic promotion, of course.
