Explore the secrets and stories of one of Bristol's best-known manor houses.

Renowned local theatre company Show of Strength are launching a brand-new walking tour this weekend, delving into the history of the iconic Smyth family, the dynasty that gave us Ashton Court Mansion.

You may well have roamed the picturesque grounds in the past, but how much do you know about the family that lived there for over 400 years? All will be revealed in The Mansion Through Time, running from Friday 25 - Sunday 27 June.

A limited number of tickets remain for six performances scheduled across three days - find out more and get yours via the Show of Strength website.

As part of a forensic look into a key part of Bristol's history, audiences will be regaled with the extraordinary stories dating back to the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, all linked by a hunt for the infamous Smyth 'lost ring' and a now-infamous imposter.

Seven actors will be playing seven characters, from high-born to low-born, Civil War to Second World War and from first-ever resident Hugh Smyth to the very last, Esme.

The unconventional theatre show is perfect for families and friends of all ages, and the ideal opportunity to explore the expansive grounds of the Ashton Court Estate for those who may not have visited before.

Announcing plans for the new show back in May, Show of Strength Creative Producer Sheila Hannon said:

“Ashton Court is one of Britain’s best-loved parks, but the history of the family is a hidden gem that very few people know.

“With a hugely increased interest in family history over lockdown, The Mansion Through Time will explore the stories, trials and tribulations of one truly remarkable Bristolian family.”

Organisers have confirmed that although the entirety of the tour will take place outdoors, loose social distancing measures will be in place to ensure the experiences is safe for attendees and performers.
