Don't try and kid yourself - we know you've got a soft spot for 'Wellerman'.

Bristol-based band The Longest Johns, who you may not have known last year but will almost certainly be familiar with by now, are well on their way to selling out three eagerly-awaited live shows at Thekla.

Having shot to worldwide fame in recent weeks with their unlikely hit 'Wellerman', the sea shanty outfit will be performing at the appropriately water-borne venue on Wednesday 15, Thursday 16 and Friday 17 December, provided the gigs are able to safely go ahead.

After the initial date sold out in a matter of hours, followed closely by the second, tickets are moving fast for the newly-announced Wednesday show - find out more and get yours here while you still can.

Born of a mutual love of traditional folk songs and sea shanties, The Longest Johns combine a traditional maritime sound with upbeat, energetic folk instrumentation.

Formed in Bristol in the early 2010s, the band have gone from singing together in a kitchen to touring around the world, off the back of three well-received studio albums.

The five-piece made worldwide headlines and found millions of new fans in January, as their now-iconic track 'Wellerman' went viral across social media channels, most notably Tiktok.

As the face of an unexpected sea shanty revival in 2021, The Longest Johns are suddenly in high demand, and it's come as no surprise that they've managed to sell out two hometown shows at Thekla in no time at all.

While the venue is currently closed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the team hope to reopen this year and are scheduled to host an array of top talent from April onwards, including fast-rising rapper Pa Salieu, The Charlatans' Tim Burgess and revered soul singer Greentea Peng.
