Westonbirt Arboretum to remain open throughout lockdown

Posted on: 15 Jan 2021

Give yourself a much-needed break from life inside the house.

The team behind popular beauty spot Westonbirt Arboretum have confirmed the park will be open to visitors throughout lockdown, with members of the public invited to go along, enjoy the space and get some vital fresh air and exercise in the coming weeks.

Closed briefly during the first lockdown last year, the park reopened in June 2020 with new safety measures in place to minimise risk to visitors, volunteers and members of staff.

With the UK expected to remain under lockdown until February at the earliest, Westonbirt Arboretum will be open for outdoor recreation and exercise, presenting a great opportunity to get out of the house and into a stunning natural setting.

While the Arboretum is currently open to the public, visitors are required to comply with a set of temporary guidelines to ensure the experience is as safe as possible.

Pre-booking is essential, and visitors who have not booked in advance will be denied admission. Mobility scooters are still available to hire, and can be pre-booked with tickets.

The park's impressive STIHL Treetop Walkway will remain open with a new one-way system in place, and all-natural play areas aside from the Exploratree will also be accessible during lockdown.

Dogs can be allowed off their leads in the Silk Wood, but the Arboretum team ask that owners only do so if their dog is well-behaved, will return when called and will stay within sight.

Toilets throughout the park will remain open, and the on-site restaurant will be operating a takeaway food and drinks service. The Westonbirt Shop will remain closed until lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Filled with 2,500 species of tree from all over the world, the arboretum plays a vital part in research and conservation, as well as being a beautiful place to visit.

Located in Gloucestershire, the Westonbirt Arboretum is under one hour's drive from Bristol city centre. For more information, to book a visit or to get in touch with the team, head to their website.
