Gloucestershire Cricket U15 squad to take part in marathon 24hr fundraiser

Gloucestershire players will be in action around the clock to raise money for the Ewing's Sarcoma Research Trust.

Members of the Gloucestershire Cricket U15 playing squad have confirmed plans for a marathon 24-hour net session early next year, raising money for charity in response to U15s bowler Freddie Collinson's Ewing's Sarcoma diagnosis.

After receiving the news, Freddie's teammates wanted to group together and organise an event to show their support and raise as much money as possible to help get him back on the field in the future.

From 12 midday on Saturday 2 January 2021, the squad will play continuously for 24 hours in relay groups, with the aim of scoring a total of 12,472 runs, the total recorded by England legend Alastair Cook.

Opening bowler for Gloucestershire's U15 team, Freddie Collinson is currently undergoing intensive treatment in Bristol after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in September.

His teammates will be playing around the clock in January to raise money for Freddie's family and the Ewing's Sarcoma Research Trust, counting one run for every ball hit on in the hope of reaching a target of 12,472.

The 24-hour net session will take place at the County Ground in BS7, the home of Gloucestershire Cricket. A fundraising page has been set up to collect donations, with close to £6,000 of a £7,500 target raised so far.
