Bristol City Centre BID unveil new festive light trail

Posted on: 02 Dec 2020

Explore a series of dazzling light installations during the buildup to Christmas.

The first lights of the new Bristol ADVENTures series were switched on last night (Tuesday 1 December) as the #BristolTogether project team look to inject a bit of festive joy into some of Bristol's most iconic landmarks.

Led by the Bristol City Centre BID, organisers will be unveiling a new light installation every day until Christmas Eve, eventually completing a trail of 24 buildings illuminated with iconic Christmas lyrics.

Last night's switch-on saw a snippet of Bobby Helms' 'Jingle Bell Rock' projected onto St George's Concert Hall, with upcoming displays to be kept top-secret until it's their turn to be unveiled.

Part of the #BristolTogether project that brought thousands of people to socially-distanced 'Hearts in the Parks' this summer, Bristol ADVENTures has seen over 100 local businesses come together to sprinkle a bit of festive magic across the city.

Expect glowing projections displayed across some of Bristol's best-loved and most well-known landmarks, some messaging under your feet and plenty of surprises as we count down to Christmas Day 2020.

Speaking on last night's project launch, Bristol City Centre BID's Operations Director, Keith Rundle, said: "As we enter the festive period, we want to bring some wonder and creativity to our city in December.

"Many of the city's businesses have come together to make it happen, providing their buildings, power supplies, lighting, and time to create a trail for us all to enjoy and explore safely.

Lighting and production company SLX has kindly supplied all the kit and we are really pleased to be able to provide opportunities for lighting technicians who have lost work in theatres and productions this year."

The project has also been set up to encourage people to support the city centre's retailers this Christmas, while remembering to be respectful and protective of each other amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

"These projections are designed to bring joy to the streets and will build with a new one each day through the month, helping support the local city centre businesses,” Keith added.

Keep your eyes peeled across central Bristol throughout December for the latest eye-catching displays, or follow daily updates on the BID's Instagram page.
