Nominate your local heroes for the 2020 Lord Mayor's Medals

Nominate your local heroes for the 2020 Lord Mayor's Medals

Posted on: 27 Nov 2020

Who do you think deserves to be recognised for their community work this year?

Nominations are open for this year's Lord Mayor's Medals, awarded to people in the community who have helped to improve the lives of others in and around Bristol.

A chance to celebrate the city's unsung heroes, the awards highlight the fantastic, everyday community work and individual achievement that so often goes unnoticed, recognising the hard-working people that make Bristol great.

After an incredibly difficult year in 2020, this year's Lord Mayor's Medals have taken on extra significance, with hundreds of people committing their time and effort to support those affected by the coronavirus crisis.

For the first time in 2020, businesses and charities can be nominated as well as individual people, in recognition of the tireless work of several Bristol-based organisations throughout the pandemic.

Between twelve and fifteen medals will be awarded this year, presented exclusively to those that have delivered exceptional support and efforts in response to the crisis.

Achievements can be in one or several areas, so long as they've made a significant contribution to the local community and been carried out on a volunteer basis.

Once all nominees have been received, a panel led by Bristol Lord Mayor, Jos Clark, will discuss and decide on the recipients of the 2020 medals, with an awards ceremony expected to be held in early 2021.

Speaking on the launch of this year's awards, the Lord Mayor said:

“With the year 2020 having been dominated by the battle against the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it is only right that this year’s Lord Mayor’s Medals recognise the fantastic and inspiring work being carried out by so many people across our city.

“We hope that our citizens take the time to carefully consider and nominate those who have made a real difference in their communities for one of our medals so that they may be recognised for their enormous contribution this year.’’

Anyone in Bristol can nominate anyone from any area of Bristol, as long as they're not a relative or life partner of the nominee.
