What's On: Halloween parties in Bristol 2020

Posted on: 27 Oct 2020

Celebrate this year's spooky season in (socially-distanced) style.

Halloween 2020 is very nearly upon us, and while this year's celebrations might be slightly toned down due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, there are still a handful of events going down across Bristol to celebrate the spooky season.

Choose from FIVE sit-down parties at Lakota, take in the surroundings at new city centre venue Strange Brew, or head below ground for a Cosies Halloween special hosted by local crew Slug Wife.

Whatever you're after, whether it's a large-scale party, low-key affair or something in between, you're sure to find the right Halloween event for you and your friends from the list below.

FUZE: Halloween Haus of Horrors / Viva la Disco: Halloween Special / Wide Eyes: Halloween Special / Cipher: Halloween in the DistrictIntirave: El Dia de los Muertos @ Lakota

Few Bristol venues have been busier in 2020 than Lakota, with the team working tirelessly to launch, promote and now expand their outdoor Lakota Gardens programme during a period of extreme difficulty for the events industry.

As part of a hugely busy Autumn season, Lakota Gardens will be hosting FIVE (yes, five) Halloween parties from Thursday 29 October - Sunday 1 November, inviting a selection of renowned local promoters to take over for a selection of socially-distanced sit-down sessions.

Expect killer sets, creepy costumes and more as resident promoters Viva la Disco and Wide Eyes take the reigns on 31 October, and much more either side courtesy of FUZE, Cipher and Intirave.

Find more information and booking details for individual events in the heading above.

101% Halloween @ Thekla

Thekla are diving headfirst into the Bristol underground this Halloween, providing a selection of UK garage, house, jungle and drum & bass courtesy of Good Time resident DJs Jack and Luke.

Expect to hear plenty of Bristol-made music and a spooky Halloween remix or two on Friday 30 October as part of 101% Halloween.

DJ October & Kahn's Ghoulish Halloween Ball / Voodoo Workin' Spook-tacular @ Strange Brew

Haunting Halloween vibes will be in full flow from start to finish at Strange Brew on Friday 30 October, as DJ October and hometown selector Kahn take over for their eagerly-awaited and suitably creepy Ghoulish Halloween Ball.

Fancy dress is welcome but optional across two sittings (17:00-19:30 and 19:30-22:00), as the new Fairfax Street venue is turned into a Halloween haven, complete with spooky decor and visuals.

The following night, guest DJ and understated local hero John Stapleton will be laying down a selection of the smokiest, sleaziest and most menacing vintage phonograph recordings he can get his hands on, covering everything from surf and soul to blues, jazz, R&B and more.

Please note that table bookings are subject to a £25 deposit payment, which will be refunded upon entry.

Mas Techno: Halloween at The Cave @ Basement 45

Long-standing Bristol venue Basement 45 will be celebrating Halloween this year in the company of one of the city's very best techno promoters, as Mas Techno present Halloween at The Cave on Saturday 31 October.

Tables are super limited across two rooms, with Mas Techno residents Michael Demelo and Di Salas (Room 1) and Nam Seng and Dani Whylie (Room 2) providing the ghoulish grooves from start to finish.

Slug-o-Ween @ Cosies

Bristol-born label Slug Wife will be taking the reigns for a typically intimate Halloween get-together at Cosies this year, bringing an all-star b2b special to the Portland Square basement to celebrate the occasion in style.

Maintaining a major focus on fun, Slug Wife are dedicated to pushing their own sound and celebrating the creativity and individuality of the artists on their roster.

With tickets available at just £10 per table and food provided all night long by Jerk Chicken King, Slug-o-Ween looks set to be a serious contender for the best Halloween party in Bristol this year.

Halloween w/DJ Die & Inja @ DaretoClub

After a lengthy COVID-related hiatus, DaretoClub are back in business at long last on Alffred Street in BS2, and they're dialing things up a notch this Halloween with headline sets from local legend DJ Die and Hospital Records signee Inja.

Expect the unexpected as the pair spin special Halloween trick or treat sets, going down across two sessions from 13:00-17:00 and 17:30-21:30 on Saturday 31 October.

Warp Speed Chug: ITALOween @ The Crofters Rights

As the name suggests, Crofters will be hosting a night of Italo, New Beat and Chug as local crew Warp Speed Chug take over from 18:300-22:00 on Saturday 31 October.

After months of terrifying listeners with their popular Noods Radio residency, they'll be trawling through their extensive collection of thumpers while draped in cheap Halloween costumes and making even cheaper Halloween puns.

Werewolf Disco @ Mr Wolfs

The Mr Wolfs crew will be celebrating Halloween in trademark style this weekend, draping the venue in spooky decor, donning some questionable Halloween outfits and sneaking some creepy classics into their musical rotation at the Werewolf Disco.

Tables for up to six people are available for £25, with delicious vegan shawarma on offer and a free cocktail pitcher up for grabs for each and every table that arrives in costume.
