What's On: Halloween Cinema in Bristol 2020

Posted on: 22 Oct 2020

Catch a scary movie on a Bristol screen this year.

Popcorn at the ready! Spooky season is very nearly upon us, and with it comes an array of Halloween classics playing on cinema screens across Bristol.

No Halloween is truly complete without a scary movie, and with the UK's film industry struggling as a result of the coronavirus crisis, we recommend heading down to your nearest cinema on 31 October for one of several eagerly-awaited special screenings.

We're lucky to have a selection of top-notch cinemas and dedicated film buffs in Bristol, so whether you're after a blockbuster at Vue or a cosy screening courtesy of the Bristol Bad Film Club, read on for a quick rundown of what's on this Halloween season.

Popcorn.

Everyman Cinema

Much-loved Clifton cinema Everyman is hosting a mini fright fest this Halloween, showing a selection of creepy classics throughout the day on Saturday 31 October.

Choose from Disney's dark fantasy flick Hocus Focus, timeless comedy Beetlejuice or the iconic original version of Halloween, starring Jamie-Lee Curtis in her breakout role.

If you're after something a bit more leftfield, zombie outbreak thriller Peninsula will be showing as a one-off at 18:00.

A follow-up to the cult hit Train to Busan, the edge-of-your-seat film follows main character Jung-seok as he navigates a post-apocalyptic landscape.

Adventure Drive-in

The Adventure Drive-in team have been hosting a string of drive-in movie screenings at Filton Airfield throughout 2020, and they've put together a nail-biting programme to celebrate Halloween in style.

Running from Tuesday 27 October - Sunday 1 November, Halloween Week will be showing something for everyone, from beloved kids' classics like Monsters University and Hotel Transylvania to certified nail-biting thrillers The ConjuringGet Out and The Exorcist.

There are one or two curveballs in there, too, with British zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead included on the lineup, as well as cinematic masterpieces The Shining and Coraline.

Bristol Bad Film Club

The B-movie aficionados over at Bristol Bad Film Club are hosting a virtual Watch Party to celebrate Halloween this year, showing the eye-wateringly terrible horror knock-off, Ax 'Em!

Shot in just 15 days and funded by writer, producer, director and star Michael Mfume's wealthy father, Ax 'Em! follows the entirely predictable story of a group of teenagers who discover they're not alone during a weekend retreat.

This one really has to be seen to be believed, and if, for some reason, you still want to watch it after seeing the trailer, you can do so when the Bristol Bad Film Club show it via live stream at 20:00 on Tuesday 29 October.

Head to their Facebook page for details.

Vue Cribbs Causeway

Vue's Cribbs Causeway cinema is widely regarded as one of the most technologically impressive in the area, and as such it will be showing a selection of timeless Halloween hits throughout this year's spooky season.

From Stanley Kubrick's spine-chilling classic The Shining to frightening flicks ScreamHalloween and Nightmare on Elm Street, Vue have certainly got what you're looking for this Halloween.

Showcase Cabot

Similarly to Vue, Cabot Circus' popular Showcase Cinema de Lux will be screening a selection of throwback Halloween hits in the coming days, with The Exorcist, Hocus Pocus and John Carpenter's Halloween among the lineup.
