Posted on: 22 Sep 2020

Autumn is here! And where better to celebrate the new season than in Bristol?

This week, a new coffee shop and record store opens its doors in the city centre, and The Tobacco Factory will host its very own craft beer festival.

Online, Bristol’s street art festival Upfest will take on the virtual world, and top comedians will unite in aid of Slapstick Festival.

Here’s seven things to do this week in Bristol.

Delve into local identity with Brizzle Week

Is Bristol unique? Is it possible to define being a Bristolian?

These are the sort of questions M Shed is asking this week during its dedicated celebration of local identity, Brizzle Week.

Running until Friday 25 September, Brizzle Week features a series of virtual events and activities, including free-to-attend online talks, delivered via Zoom. Find out more.

Visit Strange Brew’s new coffee and record shop

At long last, the team behind DIRTYTALK have opened their new DIY art and music venue on Fairfax Street.

Over the weekend, Strange Brew hosted two, socially distanced opening parties.

Get ready for a virtual version of Upfest

Europe’s largest street art festival has found a clever way to cope with the impact of COVID-19.

This weekend, Upfest takes on the virtual world with the announcement of ‘Virtually Upfest’, an online version of the festival.

It will see Bedminster’s North Street virtually reconstructed with a retro Tron-style feel, in an alternative way for street art fans to experience the festival after COVID-19 forced 2020’s edition to be cancelled.

The virtual world will cover the area from the Upfest gallery down to the Tobacco Factory, with the online event running from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September. Find out moreVirtually Upfest

See top comedians take part in Slapstick Festival’s fundraiser

Based in Bristol, Slapstick is an annual celebration of silent and classic screen comedy. It’s been part of the city’s festival scene since 2005.

To counteract the impact of COVID-19 on its year-round fundraising effort, Slapstick is hosting a virtual comedy fundraiser on Saturday 27 September.

For one night only, celebrity friends and supporters of the festival will unite to take part in Slapstick’s Big Comedy Night In, hosted live by stand-up comedian Robin Ince.

The virtual event will see the likes of Jo Brand (pictured), Sir Michael Palin, Rob Brydon and Harry Hill share jokes, stories and messages of support, to help raise money for the festival. Find out more.Jo Brand will feature in Slapstick’s virtual fundraiser

The Tobacco Factory is hosting its very own Craft Beer Festival this weekend, from Friday 25 September to Saturday 26 September.
