The zombies say they hope to return in 2021.

For the past twelve years, horror enthusiasts have gathered to moan, groan and shuffle their way around the city centre in an annual Zombie Walk.

The October gathering usually kicks off at College Green, before dozens in ghoulish fancy dress lumber their way across central Bristol.

But this year, the zombies are taking a year off due to COVID-19.

In a poster shared on social media, organisers said they "don't want to risk it this year," and encouraged fellow zombie fans to instead “stay safe, have a cup of tea and wait for all of this to blow over.”

Here's what the Zombie Walk looked like in 2019:

In the meantime, why not have a go at a different kind of horror-fuelled walking tour?

In July, the Haunted & Hidden Bristol Walking Tour started back up again following lockdown.

Departing every Friday from Bristol Cathedral at 20:00, the tour combines creepy buildings, Bristol trivia and TV locations - all delivered with a healthy dose of humour.

During the 75-minute walking tour, walkers visit a C16th house, hear about a church and its ghostly monk inhabitant, and see a haunted cinema. Find out more here.
