Discover Clevedon's virtual literary and arts event: Festival in the Clouds

Posted on: 15 Jul 2020

The festival will be available online until the end of November this year.

Earlier this year, Clevedon was gearing up to deliver first-ever literary and arts celebration, More Than Words.

It was due to take place last month, but due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the festival was postponed until 2021.

However, festival organisers came up with a clever way to celebrate art and literature across the town in its place: Festival in the Clouds.

Festival in the Clouds is an online festival, featuring a series of short presentations, videos and podcasts.

The aim? To give viewers a taste of the many creative talents, past and present, associated with the town, and to preview next year’s event.

It’s available to view for free here, and will be available online until the end of November 2020.

Among the content available is a comic art masterclass with the Clevedon-based graphic artist Kev Sutherland. Sutherland has drawn for a variety of publications, including The Beano. Watch:

Elsewhere, local poets read selections of their writings, and Barry Cunningham reveals how he gave J.K Rowing her big publishing break with Harry Potter.

And the author of The Women Who Built Bristol, Jane Duffus, discusses the women who fought to shape Clevedon.

A variety of local organisations supported the launch of the festival, including Clevedon BID, Books On The Hill and the Clevedon Community Bookshop.
