New city-wide arts campaign platforms work of Bristol's young creatives

Rising Arts' #WhoseFuture campaign aims to amplify a diverse range of creative voices across Bristol.

A brand-new arts campaign was launched in Bristol yesterday (Monday 13 July), showcasing works from 37 young creatives and giving a platform to local voices while asking important questions about the city's future.

#WhoseFuture, commissioned by Rising Arts Agency and produced alongside Out of Hand and the Bristol City Council, will see installations put up on billboards and ad spaces across the city.

Put together in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, the #WhoseFuture campaign looks to highlight the impact of the wider COVID-19 lockdown on young people across Bristol and the rest of the UK.

A huge outdoor showcase of arts will celebrate a vibrant portfolio of multimedia work from a growing group of young creatives, presenting an opportunity for the Bristol public to listen, reflect and act on positive messages of social change.

With installations set up in Bedminster, Stokes Croft, St Pauls, the city centre and across the wider central Bristol area, the campaign features work from esteemed young artists including award-winning digital illustrator Parys Gardener, artist, model and creative director Ade Sowemimo and activist, illustrator and filmmaker Ella Trudgeon.

Speaking on the launch of the campaign, Bristol Councillor Asher Craig said:

"#WhoseFuture is a powerful statement to the city. In order for us to move forward, it is important for us to listen to all the voices in the community - including Bristol's young people.

"This campaign is a testament to the insight that our young people have and the power they can bring to city-wide conversations.”

Rosa ter Kuile, Campaign Manager for the #WhoseFuture project on behalf of Rising Arts, added:

"As an arts agency, our mission has always been to champion the unheard voices of creative young people and to fight for a fairer society. Recent events have shown us that our work has never been so important.

"#WhoseFuture is about challenging the status quo, bringing Bristol's young creative community forward and celebrating a different vision for the future.”
