Trinity Centre offer £3k commission for new work from D/deaf or disabled artists

Posted on: 07 Jul 2020

The Trinity team are working with Cambridge Junction to commission a new piece of work for an online audience.

The Trinity Centre have issued an open call for D/deaf or disabled artists to create a brand-new online performance or exhibition to be released as part of the venue's 2020 online events programme.

Trinity have purposely kept the brief as open as possible, with music, dance, poetry and any other form of performance set to be taken into consideration. Applicants are encouraged to respond "in a way that best suits you as an artist" before the deadline on Friday 14 August.

What are Trinity Looking for?

Having set up the commission alongside the Cambridge Junction, Trinity are looking to fund a brand-new online performance or exhibition that will allow people to experience a piece of work safely from their own homes.

Applications must be made by one artist who identifies as D/deaf or disabled, or an artist collective in which at least 50% of members identify as D/deaf or disabled.

Work must be completed before the end of October 2020, and will be distributed online by the Trinity Centre and Cambridge Junction, remaining available to the public for a limited time.

What should I include in my application?

Applicants are asked to consider audience access within the commission fee, and confirm that artist access costs will be covered by the commission fee, the Access to Work scheme or another source of funding.

You'll need to submit a video or audio recording up to five minutes in length or a word document up to 900 words long, explaining who you are, what you plan to produce and how you'd spend the money.

What will Trinity provide?

Trinity will allocate the commission fee of £3,000, and offer their support during the production process. The Trinity team will also be on hand to offer marketing and digital content support, ensuring your work reaches as large an audience as possible.

Trinity and Cambridge Junction's social media platforms will also be utilised to promote and advertise your work once it's available online.

The final decision on who receives the commission will be made by a forum made up of local artists, community members and representatives of both Trinity and the Cambridge Junction. Find out more here.

Audio files, video files and text documents can be submitted as part of the application process here. The deadline for submissions is Monday 14 August.
