Don’t forget: Bristol Takeover Online Pt. 2 is streaming tomorrow

Don't forget - the second part of Colston Hall's digital music festival, Bristol Takeover Online (Pt. 2), kicks off tomorrow at 13:00.

On Saturday 23 May, Bristol watched as Colston Hall, in partnership with music venues across the city, launched its first digital music festival, titled Bristol Takeover Online.

It was launched to raise money for local artists and venues, as part of a national campaign by Music Venue Trust to #SaveOurVenues

The festival's first instalment, which saw the likes of Waldo's Gift, Kate Stapley and Ishmael Ensemble perform via live stream, was a success: it was viewed by thousands and smashed its initial fundraising target of £10,000.

Half of the money raised was donated to artists participating in Bristol Takeover Online Pt 1, while the rest was donated to Bristol music venues.

Now this Saturday (20 June), Bristol Takeover Online returns with a second instalment, aiming to raise a whopping £20,000 to support local artists and venues through coronavirus.

It’s all happening over on the Colston Hall YouTube channel tomorrow, from 13:00 until half past midnight.

(Yep, nearly a whole 12 hours of music performances - broadcast live!)

This time, an array of local music venues including Trinity Centre, Exchange, and The Fleece will each host their own takeover slots, with artists they have selected to perform.

The line-up boasts BBC Radio 6 favourite Katy J Pearson, jazz outfit Hippo and multi-instrumentalist Dizraeli, alongside cosmic pop's Chikaya and blues artist Elles Bailey.

Check out the full line-up on the Colston Hall website. See the set times below:

Set to be hosted by BBC introducing in the West’s Sam Bonham and Richard Pitt, the digital festival aims to support and celebrate Bristol music, as part of a national campaign to protect local music whilst venues are closed due to COVID-19.

The national #SaveOurVenues campaign notes how, due to the obstacles raised by coronavirus, at least 400 grassroots music venues across the country are at imminent risk of permanent closure.

The campaign, therefore, aims to raise money for venues in need of support, ensuring no music venue goes under because of the pandemic.

A number of Bristol music venues, including The Lousiana, The Old England and The Exchange got behind the campaign upon its launch, and set up individual crowdfunders.

Colston Hall then joined the #SaveOurVenues fight last month with Bristol Takeover Online.

Though the festival is being livestreamed for free, Colston Hall is asking that viewers donate what they might normally spend on a gig ticket to the event’s crowdfunding page.

Up to now, the festival has raised 61% of its £20,000 fundraising target.

This time, as well as supporting the artists participating in the festival and Bristol music venues, funds raised will be used to create future digital music festivals in the autumn as well as a city-wide live Takeover event when it is safe for gig spaces to reopen.
