Why bother with an open day?

Going to university is a big deal; and if you opt to go, you’ll need to be clear on your reasons for doing so.

Do you want to study a certain course? Pursue a certain career? Are you looking to experience life in a new city?

Whatever your reasoning, undergraduate open days are a great way to make a well-informed decision on whether a certain university is the right one for you.

And though it’s currently not possible to visit universities in the flesh, virtual undergraduate open days are a great alternative.

After all, you’ll still be able to get a hefty insight into life on campus (with the help of live chats, virutal campus tours and online lectures), even if it’s from the comfort of your own home.

About the University of Bristol

The University of Bristol is one of the UK’s top 10 universities (QS World Rankings 2019), and among Europe’s top 30 universities (Times Higher Education).

At present, the university has 40 Fellows of the Royal Society and 13 of the British Academy – a remarkable achievement for a relatively small institution.

Job prospects for Bristol grads are pretty exciting too: the University of Bristol is the 4th most targeted university by leading recruiters, according to High Fliers Research.

Virtual open day: what’s on offer?

On Friday 26 June, online visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in Bristol University life remotely, with the help of live chats, sessions and virtual campus tours.

Packed with all the same content of a physical open day, the programme will enable prospective students to meet undergraduate staff and to learn about different courses in subject-specific sessions.

Prospective students will also have the ability to chat with student support teams, from admissions to accommodation and study support.

Sport clubs and other societies will be on hand too, to discuss the plethora of extra-curricular activities offered by the university and Students Union.

As well as 360 virtual campus tours, which are also available to view now on the website, current students will be on hand to answer your questions.

In the meantime, the University of Bristol has an undergraduate study hub on its website, where prospective students can learn about everything from courses to accommodation.

Before the virtual open day

Like with any open day, it's a great idea to prepare beforehand to get the most out of your visit, or in this case, virtual visit.

Before the open day, then, why not take a look at the courses on offer at the university? Check out things like course modules, and the credentials of teaching staff. Then prepare some questions ahead of the open day.

Also make sure to check out other aspects of university life that are important to you, whether it be accommodation or study support, and have some questions or general talking points at the ready.

After all, open days are there to do one thing: to give you a better insight into life at a certain university. Take the opportunity to find out as much as you can!
