Based in London, Valdés is a Cuban composer and trumpeter, renowned for combining contemporary tools and sounds with spiritual influences and a deep connection with his Yoruba roots.

Inspired by the likes of Bonobo and Aphex Twin, Valdés' latest project infuses deeply personal elements with stirring electronica and live instrumentation, creating a fiercely unique sound.

Having been released worldwide back in October, For the Ones... received widespread critical acclaim from all corners of the music world.

Valdés' horn "sounds like it could be made of glass," according to BBC 6 Music DJ Mary Anne Hobbs, while Nick Gold, Grammy Award-winning producer of Buena Vista Social Club, describes him as an "incredible talent".

Valdés' performance at The Exchange follows a first show of 2020 at Ronny Scott's Jazz Cafe in London, one at Manchester's Night & Day Cafe and a performance alongside Tim Garcia at Hyde Park Book Club in Leeds.

Having played alongside the likes of Buena Vista Social Club, Madonna and The Clash, and collaborated with esteemed London artists Yussef Dayes and Nubya Garcia, Valdés' is undoubtedly one of the most exciting musicians in the capital right now.

The show has been organised by melange and is the first of several Bristol shows coming up, including Bebel Gilberto and Roberto Fonseca.

Tickets for Yelfris Valdés live at The Exchange on Tuesday 3 March are on sale now and can be found here. For more information or to see what else melange have got coming up in 2020, head to their Facebook page.
