One of the world's leading climate activists, 17-year-old Greta Thunberg, will be in Bristol this Friday to give a speech as part of the worldwide Youth Strike 4 Climate movement.

Expected to draw huge crowds in a city renowned for its dedication to environmental issues, Thunberg will be delivering a speech on College Green at 11:00 before joining thousands of students and members of the public on a march through central Bristol.

The event's organisers have confirmed that the protest route will be the same as previous Youth Strike 4 Climate marches, following main roads through central Bristol.

First Bus have warned passengers to expect heavy delays on several routes throughout the day, with major disruptions expected as a result of large crowds and the protest march itself.

Following her speech and the Youth Strike protest march, Thunberg is expected to head to Southville to visit the huge mural of herself on North Street, painted by Bristol artist Jody Thomas in 2019.

Responding to a BBC article warning of 'inadequate safety' at tomorrow's event, Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate confirmed they'll be assembling 60 metres of festival barriers, reserving a safe zone at the front of the crowd area for young children, enlisting more than 80 stewards and putting together an accessibility area for attendees.

"No time for being patronised," they added as part of their Twitter statement. We thoroughly recommend you get down early tomorrow morning, and be considerate of traffic delays, event guidelines and fellow protestors.

Greta Thunberg will be speaking on Bristol's College Green at 11:00 on Friday 28 February as part of Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate protests. For more information and updates, head to the BYS4C Twitter page.
