Cancer charity Penny Brohn UK launch creative dance project in Bristol

Move Dance Feel is being set up to support women affected by cancer in Bristol communities.

With a stark link between cancer survival and social deprivation in Bristol compared with other major UK cities, Penny Brohn UK have announced plans for a free taster session of a new creative dance project for women in the city.

Move Dance Feel with Penny Brohn UK.

Kicking off with a free session on Thursday 19 March at the Trinity Centre in BS2, Move Dance Feel is designed for women with any type of cancer at any stage, whether they're being diagnosed, undergoing treatment or in the post-treatment stage.

The session will combine dynamic and creative movement activities with playful opportunities for interaction and quiet reflection, helping women to find freedom in their bodies and confident in their abilities.

Evidence suggests that minority communities across Bristol are encountering religious, cultural and socio-economic barriers when trying to access mainstream hospital-based services.

Penny Brohn UK hope to address these inequalities and encourage women from areas and communities across the city to sign up to the new initiative. No previous dance experience is necessary, as participants will be guided through a range of tasks and techniques.

The free Move Dance Feel taster session will be taking place at the Trinity Centre from 11:00-13:00 on Thursday 19 March.

London-based dance artist and Move Dance Feel Founder, Emily Jenkins, says "the project is centred around artistic practice, where women come together to dance instead of talk about their cancer experience. I'm so excited to be partnering with Penny Brohn to offer dance courses to women in the South West."

With more than 40 years' experience, Penny Brohn UK are one of the nation's leading cancer charities, operating from their National Centre facility in Pil.

The charity's whole-person approach recognises that people with the disease need more than medicine, and offers personalised care from diagnosis, to treatment and throughout survivorship.
