Acclaimed production of The Political History of Smack & Crack set for the Bristol Old Vic

Following a well-received debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, the production is running in Bristol this week for five nights at the Bristol Old Vic. Catch it between Wednesday 22 January and Saturday 25 January.

At 2am on Wednesday 8 July 1981, all the major cities of England burn. The night of the riots. That night should change everything.

Tracing their own lives from the epicentre of the 1981 England riots to their present-day survival on the streets of Manchester, main characters Mandy and Neil chronicle the fallout for communities crushed by the heroin epidemic at the height of the Thatcher era.

Writer Ed Edwards' own experiences in jail and rehab make up much of the subject matter of The Political History of Smack and Crack, an emotive production that portrays the journey from the 1981 Moss Side riots to the fight for survival on the streets of Manchester today.

Winner of Summerhall's Lustrum Award in 2018 and finalist in Theatre503's 2017 Play Writing Award, TPHOSAC is a riotous and tender portrayal of two life-long addicts, injected with home truths about the road to recovery.

The acclaimed production arrives in Bristol on Wednesday 22 January for the first of five shows at the Bristol Old Vic, with the final showing at 20:00 on Saturday 25 January.
