Taylor Swift confirmed as second Glastonbury 2020 headliner

Posted on: 16 Dec 2019

The American singer-songwriter becomes only the sixth female solo headliner in the festival's history.

With just a select few acts confirmed so far to be playing next year's 50th Anniversary festival, Taylor Swift has been chosen to headline the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage with a Sunday night set.

Taylor Swift confirmed for Glastonbury 2020.

Swift, who has evolved over the years into one of the world's most popular musicians, has been writing and performing since she was 14. Her self-titled debut album, released in 2006, catapulted her to the forefront of American pop music.

Since then, she's released six critically-acclaimed and commercially successful albums, with Lover recently becoming this year's only album to surpass 1 million 'pure' copies sold, i.e. physical and digital sales.

Taylor Swift's headline set will be the first from a solo female artist at Glastonbury since Adele's in 2016, and only the sixth in the festival's 50-year history.

Confirmed for the revered Sunday night Pyramid Stage closing slot, Swift joins fellow headliner Paul McCartney, Diana Ross in the legends slot and self-confirmed acts Aerosmith and Wolf Alice on the Glastonbury 2020 programme so far.

Revealing the news on Twitter, Swift said: "I’m ecstatic to tell you that I’ll be headlining Glastonbury on its 50th anniversary – See you there!"

With only one headliner left to confirm, Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Kendrick Lamar is the bookies' favourite to be confirmed for Friday night on the Pyramid Stage.
