A new era for The Galleries: retail expert David Wait joins the Broadmead shopping centre as its brand-new centre manager.

David Wait, a keen traveller and runner, is the new centre manager of Bristol shopping centre, The Galleries.

Committed to transforming The Galleries into a community hub, David joins the team with over 20 years’ experience of the retail industry, in which he’s risen through the ranks from security to management.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started," David said. I grew up in Cheddar, and I have fond memories of The Galleries."

“Now I’m in my new role, I’m want to work more closely with key stakeholders across the city as well as local charities and organisations to help put the centre at the heart of the community.

“I want to make it a destination that offers more than just shops, but also brings a variety of inspiring events and activities for all ages.”

A collection of independent retailers and chain stores, The Galleries boasts a large food court, free Wi-Fi and a dedicated kids’ club.

Speaking on the independent retailers at The Galleries, David said:

“The Galleries’ collection of independent retailers is really strong and that’s something I want to build on, nurturing all retail talent we have here as well as attracting new businesses in.”

“Retail is a having a tough time, and the independents haven’t always got the infrastructure to help them progress.

“I’m hoping that by independents trading at The Galleries, they will take advantage of the infrastructure we have onsite such as our marketing team.”

Raised in the South West, David is no stranger to Bristol. We asked him what he thinks is the best thing about the city, and what he’ll get up to outside of work:

“First and foremost, everyone [in Bristol] is very friendly,” David explains. “I’m looking forward to visiting the Hippodrome, the Old Vic, and watching the Bristol Bears!”

Following a “warm welcome” from his new team, David is now gearing up for The Galleries’ Christmas trading period.

On Friday 15 November, The Galleries will kick off the festive period with the return of the Bristol Etsy Team x Bristol Girl Boss winter pop-up shop.

Featuring the work of 80 local artists, the pop-up is a chance for Bristol shoppers to discover handmade Christmas gifts, designed and handmade by the city's creatives.

Keep up to date with The Galleries, including upcoming events and openings, on social media.
