3 alternative screenings at Everyman Cinema you can’t miss

Posted on: 09 Nov 2019

Bristol cinema fans can enjoy a range of one-off screenings at Everyman Cinema throughout November.

As one of Bristol's favourite cinema venues, Everyman proudly combines a programme of big-budget, blockbusters with independent films, live Q&As, documentary screenings and more.

Located on Whiteladies Road, Everyman will be hosting three eagerly-awaited, one-off screenings in November, including a late-night showing of the emotive Persepolis and a visually-striking recap of Depeche Mode's acclaimed 2018 world tour.

Late Nights: Persepolis | Saturday 9 November

The poignant story of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, Persepolis is told through the eyes of outspoken nine-year-old Marjane. The audience is shown a nation's hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power, forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands.

Outsmarting the 'social guardians' of the time, Marjane discovers punk music, ABBA and Iron Maiden, but as she grows older her situation intensifies and she is sent to school in Austria by her parents.

Winner of several esteemed awards, including a Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the 2007 animated film is a standout screening at Everyman this month and should not be missed.

Documentary: The Amazing Johnathan | Tuesday 19 November

What begins as a documentary film following the final tour of dying American magician, The Amazing Johnathan develops into an unexpectedly bizarre journey for filmmaker Ben Berman as he struggles to separate truth from illusion.

Featuring the voice of Louis Theroux, the film is a genuinely gripping exploration of the character and the fragile man behind it. Fans of Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond on Netflix should be checking this one out on Tuesday 19 November.

Depeche Mode: Spirits in the Forest | Thursday 21 November

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Anton Corbijn, Depeche Mode: Spirits in the Forest captures the raw energy and spectacle of the band's performances on their Global Spirit Tour in 2018.

Exploring the personal stories of six devoted Depeche Mode fans, the film shows why the band's popularity and relevance haven't wavered over the course of their extensive career; and provides a unique look into the power of music when it comes to building communities and overcoming adversity.
