Hundreds of people take part in charity walk to support people living with cancer

Posted on: 17 Oct 2019

Last weekend, over 400 people took part in a charity walk in aid of leading cancer charity, Penny Brohn.

The ‘Stomp’ walk saw 420 adults, children and dogs brave a rainy, six-mile route on Saturday 12 October, to raise money for the local charity.

Dressed in the charity’s familiar purple t-shirts, walkers gathered in Anchor Square before following a route along the Avon Gorge towards Penny Brohn UK’s National Centre in Pill.

The event has raised a whopping £28,000 to support people living with cancer, with more sponsorship money on the way.

“We were thrilled to have so many walkers take part in this year’s Stomp,” said Sophie Thomas, the charity’s Community Fundraising Officer. “Despite the soggy start, spirits were high and Stompers created a purple spectacle across the city.”

The money raised will be used to fund the life-changing work of Penny Brohn UK, who support people living with cancer.

Adopting an integrated approach to cancer support, the charity recognises that people need more than medicine to live well with the disease. The charity offers free residential, day courses, group and one-to-one therapies to help those living with cancer achieve the best health and wellbeing.

Earlier this month, the charity announced a new gym-based activities programme in partnership with The Bodyworks Project. The scheme aims to offer those living with cancer advice on safe and effective physical activity.
