The eagerly-awaited return of Simple Things Festival is just days away. Check out our rundown of the 2019 schedule including highlights, stages, set times and more.

Simple Things Festival 2019.

The multi-venue Simple Things Festival is undoubtedly one of Bristol's most diverse and forward-thinking events, and this year they've pushed the boat out even further to feature well over 80 artists and speakers on Saturday 19 October.

As well as making use of the city's more established music venues - including the full Lakota complex, SWX, Colston Hall and Rough Trade - Simple Things will also be bringing stellar lineups to The Christmas Steps, The Sportsman, Millenium Square, the Planetarium, We The Curious and The Watershed for their 2019 edition.

This year's festival will kick off with an opening show on Friday, showcasing '10,000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid', a collaborative AV project from William Basinski, Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand set to take place in the Bristol IMAX from 8pm.

From there an array of acts, speakers and exhibitors will descend onto Bristol stages, with the 2019 Simple Things programme set to showcase some of the very best sounds coming out of the city right now.

On Saturday, post-punk outfit Cruelty are locked in to kick things off at The Sportsman in Horfield at 2pm and Bristol radio regular Kiia will be holding down an hour-long slot (4pm) on Noods' Colston Hall Terrace Takeover. Harvey Causon is set to bring his understated electronica to the Colston Hall Foyer (5.45pm) while Pet Shimmers (7.30pm), Scalping (4.45pm), Franco Franco & Kinlaw (9pm) and Natural Sugars (3pm & 10pm) complete a sizeable list of local acts performing throughout the day.

Other highlights in this year's day programme include the '15 Years of Hyperdub' discussion with mercurial artist Kode9Cooly G and Marcus Scott at 1.30pm at the IMAX; Holly Herndon's hotly-anticipated PROTO live show at SWX at 7.45pm, vibrant Ghanain artist Ata Kak downstairs at Colston Hall (11.15pm) and pioneering South African Gqom artist DJ Lag closing The Christmas Steps from 8pm to 10pm.

Simple Things 2019 Night Programme.

Onto the jam-packed night programme: Simple Things have arguably put together their best-ever lineup of DJs and electronic artists for their 2019 festival. Split into a separate night schedule for the second time after debuting it successfully last year, there's a definite focus on UK music this time around.

All taking place within the expansive Lakota complex and making use of five space across the main club and Coroner's Court, Bristol locals Ellie Stokes, Natural Sugars and Futureboogie/Team Love head Dave Harvey, in-demand newcomer Dr Rubenstein, Radio 1 resident Jayda G, well-established veteran DJ Andrew Weatherall and London-based genre-spanning expert Josey Rebelle are all set to appear in a huge night of music running from 10pm-7am.
