Bristol Festival of Literature is back for 2019

Posted on: 30 Sep 2019

Love it or loathe it, literature is an integral part of our lives.

Poetry, short stories or great big novels; it’s an art form that can offer an escape from busy everyday life. So, why not celebrate it in Bristol? The Bristol Festival of Literature is back for 2019.

Between 17 and 27 October 2019, the festival will see a range of talks, readings and interactive workshops taking place across the city.

Catch readings, workshops and more at this year's festival

Organised by a group of dedicated volunteers – including writers, publishers, readers and editors – the festival aims to present literature in fresh, exciting and meaningful ways.

Now in its 8th year, the Bristol Festival of Literature has spent years celebrating the very best of creative writing. So, why not give it a try? Here's a glimpse into this year's 10-day event.

Before the festival kicks off on 17 October, why not celebrate this year’s winners of the Bristol Short Story Prize?

At the Prize ceremony, catch the launch of this year’s BSSP Anthology featuring the 20 shortlisted authors. You never know, you might discover a new favourite.

The festival has been running for eight years

Later in the week, find out who were the women that helped build the Bristol we see today at Arnos Vale. Adela of Arnos Vale will be interviewing local writers to cast a spotlight on the women who shaped our society.

And after that, catch the launch of the new book ‘The Women Who Built Bristol’ at Bristol Old Vic.

On 19 October, learn about Sofi Poetry at St Mark's Road or later in the week, discuss what contemporary love means with Bristol Climate Writers in an interactive workshop.

Bristol Festival of Literature book fair

And of course, there's The Bristol Festival of Literature Book Fair. It does what it says on the tin, but it’s an integral part of the literature festival.

Peruse the shelves of some of the region's best publishers and authors including AA Abbott, Book Island and Page 53. It’s happening on Saturday 27 October.
