University of Bristol Freshers: 6 essential events

University of Bristol Freshers: 6 essential events

Posted on: 12 Sep 2019

Ah, Freshers Week. Or ‘Welcome Week’ as the University of Bristol likes to call it.

A time to celebrate new chapters, a chance to meet new people. One short week spent getting to grips with the place you’ll call home for the next three years. Big stuff!

Chances are, you’ve already heard that Bristol is a good night out. But do you really know where to go?

If your first thought is ‘The Triangle!’ then we invite you to rethink. Bristol sound – and the clubs scene that comes with it - extends far beyond this pop-fuelled patch in Clifton.

To get you started, we’ve rounded up some of the most exciting events happening this Freshers - take a look. Bristol Uni events for FreshersPPG w/ Courtesy, Andy Garvey & Alexis @ The Island | 21 September

The clues in the name: Pretty Pretty Good have brought the likes of Mumdance, Jensen Interceptor and Pangaea to Bristol. But soon, their parties in the city will come to an end. Catch them while you can.

This time, join PPG as they host Danish DJ and label owner Courtesy with her colorful techno cuts and multi-genre influences.

Tokyo World @ Eastville Park | 21 - 22 September

It’s a no brainer: each year, Tokyo World pulls in freshers and third years alike for a day cross-genre delights in Eastville Park. Expect drum and bass, house techno, jungle and more.

This year, headliners include Lethal Bizzle, De La Soul and Craig David. But try not to get hung up on the headliners: there’s loads of noteworthy acts sprinkled throughout this line-up. Old Crown Courts is an underground venue in the city centre A Grade II listed building, Old Crown Courts is a unique underground venue in the city centre

Mella Dee @ Motion | 25 September

If there’s one Bristol club most people have heard, it’s Motion. Catch a mid-week set from Mella Dee on 25 September.

In Mella Dee’s sound catalogue, you’ll find disco cuts, breakbeat and house merged into one. A crowd-pleaser, this is a safe bet for Fresher’s week.

Livity Sound w/ A Made Up Sound & Andy Mac @ The Love Inn | 26 September

Initially founded in Bristol, the Livity Sound label is the brainchild of underground big names Pev, Kowton and Assusu.

If one thing becomes clear during your time at Bristol, it’ll be that Livity loves a good midweek party at the Love Inn in Stokes Croft.

This time, they’re hosting Dutch bass producer A Made Up Sound and Andy Mac. Head down on 26 September to see what all the fuss is about. The Love Inn is a cosy venue in Stokes Croft The Love Inn is a cosy venue in Stokes Croft.

Distilled Presents: Paul Woolford @ Old Crown Courts | 27 September

Dance royalty is coming to Bristol during Freshers! You lucky things.

Head underground to the Old Crown Courts and catch Ibiza resident Paul Woolford’s (aka Special Request) extended set. It’ll be deep-house all night long.

TRiBE of FRoG @ Lakota | 28 September

It’s heavy, it’s weird and wonderful, and it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. Throw yourself in the deep end with TRiBE of FRoG’s 19th birthday bash.

A neon cyclone of trance, acid and psych, this monthly Lakota party has become a Bristol institution. On the 28th, expect ultrafast bpm, alarming visuals and a huge blowout spanning two venues.
