Kids' activities for the upcoming bank holiday

Kids' activities for the upcoming bank holiday

Posted on: 20 Aug 2019

With the upcoming Summer Bank Holiday next Monday, what's on for kids in Bristol?

Many parents will have just recovered from the summer holiday and finding enough to do to fill the ample time, focus the kids' energies and make the most of some summer holiday from work.

We put together some of the most popular August Bank Holiday activities around Bristol to keep them occupied.

Clip 'n Climb - St Werburghs

It's probably Bristol's most popular place for climbing when all ages are taken into consideration.

Not only is Clip 'n Climb geared towards providing a super-accessible option for kids to enjoy climbing, as the name suggests, but parents can also grab a decent Extract-roasted coffee and relax while the kids get rid of all that energy.

It's actually located within the Bloc bouldering centre, which is by far and away the largest climbing facility in the region surrounding Bristol.

So, a quick drive down the M32 and you're there. And since it's located so close to leafy St Werburghs, there's also the option to cycle or stroll down safely.

It is a very, very popular place for kids' activities, so we'd advise booking - take a look here to make a booking starting from 10 am on the Bank Holiday Monday.

For more information about Clip 'n Climb before you book, take a look at their website.

Find the location in the map below.

Flip Out - Longwell Green

If you'd rather have the kids running around bouncing off of trampolines instead of your hard-earned possessions and furniture, Flip Out might just be the ideal remedy for the kids' over-excitment during the Bank Holiday.

Located a short drive out of the centre past Brislington, there's also the opportunity to get in some stocking-up for Bank Holiday DIY plus retail therapy at the adjacent retail park which includes B&Q, Wickes, Boot, Next and River Island.

Right over the A4174, you'll also find the Vue Cinema complex and Hollywood Bowl if you want to get some less energetic family time in, too.

Flip Out is open from 10 am until 7 pm Monday to Saturday and 10 am to 6 pm Sundays.

Bearing in mind that the Bank Holiday weekend might just be packed, you might want to book now to make sure you get a spot for the kids this weekend.

Aardman Animations at the M Shed

Wallace & Gromit creators, Oscar-Winners and all-round Bristol institution Aardman Animations are currently exhibiting at the M Shed.

The focus is on the animation and production of Early Man, including puppets and other props to fascinate the kids visiting - there's even the opportunity for kids to dress up as characters from the Stone Age animation which took kids' cinema by storm in 2018.

With the M Shed located right on the Harbourside and right in the middle of the city, it could work as a stopping point to or from town as part of Bank Holiday family shopping.

Family Saver tickets are priced at £18 for two adults and up to three children and includes a return journey to the Harbour on the Harbourside Railway (but please check this old railway is running on the day of your visit).

Take a look at the main site here.

The M Shed location is shown below.
