As far as events go that does exactly what it says on the tin, you can't beat Somerset Rural Life Museum's early May Bank Hol weekend event, Plant a Pumpkin, which will let you, well, plant a pumpkin from Saturday 4th until Sunday 6th May 2019.

Plant a Pumpkin with Somerset Rural Life Museum.

The round, golden squash is most commonly associated with Halloween, but in actual fact, it's a pretty versatile foodstuff, its orange flesh perfectly adaptable for use in a plethora of recipes and dishes such as sweet treats, curries, soups, pies and risottos.

Now, however, is the perfect time to plant your own pumpkin so it will be ripe and ready come October. You can sow your pumpkin seed into a pot to take home and then sit back and watch it grow into its full-blown, orange spherical magnificence over the coming months.

Pumpkin planting session times are 11am-12pm and 2pm-3pm on Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th and Monday 6th May. This special event is free with the Museum Unlimited Annual Pass.
