King Champion Sounds at Crofters Rights on Thursday 23rd May.

Brainchild of Ajay Saggar (Dandelion Adventure, Donkey, The Bent Moustache), King Champion Sounds are a seven-piece group that Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore once described as "a mix of The Fall, Can, Sun Ra, Captain Beefheart, Public Image Ltd and King Tubby", going onto profess his love for the band. With vocals and lead guitar taken care of by G.W. Sok (The Ex), the lineup is completed by a second guitar, bass, drums and two horns.

Japanese trio Kuunatic describe themselves as a tribal/oriental dreamy psych band, embracing eastern rhythms with a punk twist, chanelling The Slits and New York No-Fi abstraction. That sentence may well be a mouthful, but in simple terms this group are a no-nonsense act unlike any other you'll hear in the Westcountry any time soon.

Describing their own sound as "Szabo Lynch Grunge", I truly have no idea how to put into words a suggestion on what to expect from Silenzio. I do know, however, that their act comprises of double bass, flute, cello, violin, baritone sax, guitar, tenor sax, vocals and percussion. A lot to unpick, but you get the impression that the Crofters crowd won't be forgetting them in a hurry once they've left the stage.

Doors for this one are open at 8pm, and advance tickets are available here at £8 each. For more information on the event or to find out more about any of the acts on the lineup, check out the official Facebook event listing here.
