Three members of the teaching staff at Clifton High School spent their Easter holidays cycling from John O'Groats at the tip of Scotland all the way down to Land's End in Cornwall to raise money for Bristol-based cancer charity Penny Brohn UK.

Knowing that several families and staff attached to the school had been personally supported by Penny Brohn, Mr Taylor, Mr Rimmer and Mr Wallington decided to set up the huge cycling challenge to raise funds for the charity. The ride saw the intrepid trio travel nearly 1,000 miles over ten days, hitting Bristol on Day Eight and receiving a much-needed boost from the Clifton High School students as they passed through the city.

Head of School Sport Mr Taylor was over the moon to be involved with the event, explaining that “Penny Brohn UK is a wonderful charity that supports people to cope with a cancer diagnosis. Families, children and the staff within our school have directly benefitted from the work of Penny Brohn UK so we decided to cycle the length of the country to raise money for this excellent charity so they can continue to support more individuals and their families in the future.”

On hearing that the trio had completed their mammoth task, Clifton High Headteacher Dr Alison Neill said “frozen, wet through and still smiling; such an outstanding achievement! Congratulations, Mr Taylor, Mr Rimmer and Mr Wallington. Clifton High salutes you!”

With over 38 years' experience in caring for people affected directly and indirectly by cancer, Penny Brohn UK recognises that those people need more than just medicine. Their Bristol Whole Life Approach provides integrated support that works alongside medical treatment to achieve the best possible health and wellbeing.
