Bristol Club Highlights - March 2019

Bristol Club Highlights - March 2019

Posted on: 01 Mar 2019

It'd be stupid of us not to shine a light on the best of Bristol's bustling nightlife scene, and so with the Club Highlights series we'll be providing you with a monthly list of the best club nights in the city, taking into account some of the best-known acts and venues as well as some you might never have heard of. Bristol clubs are set to welcome some of the hottest underground talent on the scene through their doors in March, with Hospitality Records, Wide Eyes, Dropout Disco, Banoffee Pies and Mixmag all hosting parties between now and the end of the month. Find all the details below.

Banoffee Pies Records' Garden Party on Saturday 2nd March.

Banoffee Pies Garden Party @ The Christmas Steps, Saturday 2nd March

The much-loved Banoffee Pies crew are back this month for their first daytime event of the year, taking over The Christmas Steps on Saturday 2nd. Running all afternoon and into the evening from 2pm-10pm and making use of both the inside and outside areas, the Garden Party will also be used as an opportunity to debut Banoffee Pies' all-new collaboration with Bristol Beer Factory, the 7.8% Banoffee Pale. Free entry, top-notch tunes and banging beer - what's not to like?

Curated by Batu @ The Loco Klub, Saturday 2nd March

Timedance mastermind Batu has been given the reigns for this one at The Loco Klub on the first Saturday of the month, inviting JASSS, Klein and Chekov to stamp their marks on proceedings as part of the first Submerge Nights event. The chance to party in one of Bristol's most unique and under-utilised venues shouldn't be taken lightly, and you can be sure you'll be in good hands with breakout Bristol artist Batu at the helm. The show is one of the standout events of this year's intriguing Submerge festival, running from 1st-10th March - find out more here.

French Kiss pres. Lone & Em Williams @ The Island, Friday 8th March

French Kiss have pulled out all the stops for their second event after their sell-out debut at The Loco Klub, booking R&S Records mainstay and Magicwire head Lone to play alongside Bristol favourite Em Williams at The Island. Known to incorporate breaks, house, techno, acid and electro into his diverse sets, Lone's recent 'Ambivert Tools' EP received acclaim across the scene and he continues to push the boundaries of electronic music. Simple resident and head of the fantastic Mix Nights, Em Williams is no stranger to The Island and will be providing a faultless supporting set on Friday 8th March. Check out Lone's Radio 1 Essential Mix below for a taster of what to expect from this one.

That Thing on International Women's Day @ Basement 45, Friday 8th March

Not affiliated with the Stokes Croft clothes shop of the same name, That Thing are a brand-new collective whose inaugural party is locked in on the night of International Women's Day 2019. They've booked their acts accordingly, putting together an unmissable all-female lineup to put Basement 45 through its paces, with NTS resident and recent Boiler Room debutant Fauzia, old-school jungle DJ Minni Malloi, big break selector Mysogifist and more set to take over on the night. You won't find any advance tickets for this one - get yours on the door for £5 or £7 after midnight, with all proceeds going to tackling period poverty in Bristol's refugee community.

Hospitality 2019 @ Motion, Saturday 9th March

Hospitality's programming expertise is second to none on the drum n bass scene, and they've managed to outdo themselves yet again with their 2019 visit to Motion on Saturday 9th March. Spanning the full spectrum of the 170bpm sphere, expect massive sets from Camo & Krooked, S.P.Y, Danny Byrd, London Elektricity and more in the main room, with a huge King of the Rollers Royal Rumble locked in for room two, featuring B2B sets with Dillinja, Bryan Gee, Jumpin Jack Frost, Logistics, Nu:Tone, Makoto, DJ Limited, Bou and Stompz. We seem to say this about a lot of events in these Highlight roundups but Bristol dnb heads CAN NOT afford to miss this one!

Dropout Disco Get Intimate @ Coroner's Court, Saturday 23rd March

Following the major success of their Multiverse event in February that saw Nightmares on Wax, Pangaea, Special Request and Mafalda take over the Lakota complex (check out our full review here), Bristol party starters Dropout Disco are opting for a more intimate affair this time around as they welcome dancefloor specialist Fantastic Man and renowned jazz-house producer Laurence Guy for a slightly more low-key party at the Coroner's Court. With Dropout Disco residents and a still-to-be-announced special guest joining the headliners on the night, this is set to be the latest chapter in a very long line of top-notch DD events.

Palette w/Bruce & Chris Farrell @ The Love Inn, Friday 29th March

Idle Hands owner Chris Farrell's month-long residency at The Love Inn will come to a close with the last Palette event of March on Friday 29th, and who better to round off the proceedings than in-demand artist Bruce. Having cut his teeth in Bristol, Bruce's stock is rapidly on the rise at the moment following the release of his acclaimed album, Sonder Somatic, in October last year. Advance tickets for this one are available for £4.50 with a limited amount on the door on the night, but don't waste time because chances are they won't be around for long. Farrell probably puts it better than any of us possibly could when he says "if you're gonna get loose, it should probably be with Bruce".

Mixmag live w/Objekt @ Motion, Saturday 30th March

Mixmag are saving the best till last this month as they bring their live tour to Motion on Saturday 30th. Berlin-based DJ and producer Objekt is certainly one of the most exciting electronic artists in the world right now, and his next-level technical skills will be a perfect fit for the Marble Factory space. With an opening set from prolific Bristol favourite Batu and London-born Berliner Katiusha providing the backup on the night, this is a genuinely unmissable prospect.
