Discover your new ambition with SGS WISE's upcoming Ambitions careers eventPosted on: 15 Oct 2018
UK Colleges Week is finally here this week (Monday 15th-Friday 19th October), with colleges around the country hosting events to showcase the brilliant work they do day in, day out. SGS College is hosting Bristol's most comprehensive careers event of the year to mark the occasion, with Ambitions taking place on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th October.
Ambitions has grown over the years to become one of the most extensive schools' events in the South West, with over 120 exhibitors set to attend this year from employers, training providers, colleges and universities waiting for an estimated 4,000-plus visitors, including pupils aged 11-19, parents, career advisors and teachers. This year's event will take place at SGS WISE Campus, BS34 8LP.
The event is a part of the Love Our Colleges campaign: a partnership between Association of Colleges (AoC), National Union of Students (NUS), Association of College and School Leaders (ASCL), University and Colleges Union (UCU), Unison, GMB, TUC and National Education Union (NEU).
Colleges across the country are among the best facilitators of honing skills and realising ambitions, whether it's through top-class education, basic skills or lifelong learning. Rooted in local communities, they're crucial in driving social mobility and providing the appropriate skills to boost local and regional economies.
There is, however, currently a reduction in education funding once a student turns 16 - regardless of whether they're in a sixth form or a college. The Love Our Colleges campaign is calling on governments to increase 16-19 funding by 5% a year for five years. It is also asking Department for Education to provide exceptional funding, ring-fenced for teacher pay.
Sara-Jane Watkins, Principal at SGS College, said: “SGS College is absolutely committed to Colleges Week and the ‘Love Our Colleges’ campaign. The lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals are positively impacted every year by the dedication and experience of teachers from within the College sector."
SGS College's Ambitions careers event is set to take place at SGS WISE Campus, BS34 8LP on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th October 2018. For more information or to see what else SGS College can offer you, visit their website or check out their Facebook page.
