Art Auction for Help Bristol’s Homeless at Here on Thursday 31st May

Posted on: 30 May 2018

Home is Where The Art Is; an auction of contemporary art in aid of Help Bristol’s Homeless, takes place on Thursday 31st May from 7.30pm at Here on Bath Road Bristol.

Artwork by Massive Attack's 3D, Robert Del Naja

Bristol enjoys a uniquely diverse culture of music and art and is home to some of the best visual artists working in the UK today. But the city also has one of the highest homeless populations in the country.

Art donated by more than 70 artists from Bristol will be sold at HERE on Bath Road, and simultaneously live online, with all proceeds going to Help Bristol's Homeless to fund the creation of homes from used cargo containers.

Artwork by Artist Gail E Reid

The catalogue includes pieces from Massive Attack’s 3D, Inkie Bingle, Tracey Emin, Andy Council, Jim Starr, Emma Caton, and more. BBC Points West’s Paul Baltrop will act as auctioneer for the evening.

Founder of Help Bristol’s Homeless, Jasper Thompson, explained:

“Painters are painting, and the homeless need homes. 1 in 170 people in Bristol are homeless. 2,600 in temporary accommodation. 135 slept rough on our city’s streets last night. HBH is challenging homelessness in Bristol one bed at a time. We believe a home is a right, not a privilege, and that the best way to help homeless people is to give them a secure base from which they can rebuild their lives. Help Bristol's Homeless are building homes for the homeless by upcycling transport containers and decommissioned vehicles, and we need money to do it. It costs £10,000 for us to convert each container and £100,000 to create a South Bristol container village. North Bristol needs the same. Selling art is just the start.”

Everyone can join in. The auction event will be shared live on Facebook and anyone wanting to bid from afar can do so online here.
