Easter holiday events for all the family at Bristol's big attractions and National Trust properties

The Easter Holidays are upon us, and there are many family-friendly activities to do. From events at Bristol's attractions and National Trust properties, there's everything from exhibitions, craft workshops, Easter Egg hunts, boat rides and more! Here's our selection of some of Bristol's top picks as well as nearby attractions to enjoy this Easter..

 

The Matthew

The Matthew Bristol

The Harbour Trip is available throughtout Easter weekend - both Saturday and Sunday - and is a great way to see the city from the water. It costs £12 (adult) and lasts for 1 hour. On Wednesday 4th April and Friday 6th April special Harbour Trips will include performances by Captain Barnacle. This pirate pantomime show features lots of pirate props, puppets, comedy and lashings of audience participation. Entry for one adult is around £15.

 

Bristol Zoo

Easter holiday specials at Bristol Zoo from 24th March through 8th April 2018. First, the Egg Discovery trail, while going around the zoo the kids can find out more about which animals laying eggs and some fun facts. 'I spy' a challenge for the whole family: who can spy the list of zoo inhabitants the quickest. Guess Who? Another special to find out how animals see the world with their eyes. Volunteers will provide some Easter Craft Specials.

When tickets are booked online, for each paying adult a child can come into the Zoo for free - offer ends on Sunday 15th April.

 

Ashton Court Estate

Family event on Easter Sunday called Keep it Foolish. Price is £10 per child and includes making your own special hat and after that collecting clues around the Rose Garden to win a chocolate goody bag. Ashton Court Estate are also hosting a Bristol Rocks Event between 10am - 12pm on Wednesday 4th April. There you can paint a stone which you can take home or hide in the Estate. The cost is £2 per stone.

 

St Werburghs City Farm

A great one for all the family- visit the cute animals and stop at the cafe for a delicious bite to eat afterwards. Their Sunday Roasts are something special!

 

We The Curious

Lots of activities including:

Spring Stargazing 3D from 7th of March until 23th of May at the Planetarium costs £15.30 per adult.

TimeLab is on every day until 16th of July where you can discover the story of time passing.

Daily film called 'Notes on Blindness' documents the experience of John Hull, who became totally blind.

Cabbages, Kale and Us an event to explore the differences and discover how humans have changed the food that we eat over time.

Memorials to Change tells stories about people from the Bristol area and memories changed their life.

Ferments about the processes everyone uses in the kitchen. Price is included in General Admission.

Plus only on Easter Monday the free Outdoor Screening: The Lion King.

3 Exhibitions on to visit over Easter Holiday at Mshed :

Somalis in Bristol – Where are we from and who are we know? Is a great experience to get to know the story behind people from Somali.

Brave poor things explore Bristol's disability history of the Guild. The first building in the UK for disabled people and what it is today.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 continues, presenting an awesome collection of photographs of nature. Admission is £6 for an adult.

 

Arnolfini

Arnolfini opened The Front Room earlier in March with public space covered in books to use however you like. On Thursday 5th April at 18:30pm they host The Book Club by Salena Godden. The Book Club features writers whose work connects to Arnolfini's commitment to exploring the state of the nation, the voices that have gone unheard and the stories that have until now remain untold.

 

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

On Wednesday 28th March you can explore the ceramic galleries and create your own design and do some ceramic art, which you can take home. Not just for kids! Admission is £10 per person.

 

Tyntesfield

The House Site Pass gives you a special look behind the scenes. Event ticket price £17.20 per adult.

Victorian explorers: pioneers of wild frontiers  - an event on Easter Weekend tells tales from the 1880s and how the wild frontiers were discovered.

Feel Good Friday Run after Easter on Friday 6th April to to lose the weight from the chocolates. The Morning Run starts at 10am and is open for all abilities. Admission is £3 for everyone.

 

Bristol & Bath Gardens

Cadburry Easter Egg Hunt

Walking through the special trails is fun for the whole family. Event price £1.50 per Trail.

The Cadbury Easter Egg hunt is a family fun and will be running over the Easter weekend. Follow the clues around the garden and experience your dedective skills. Cost £2.50 per Person.

Wild Wednesday every Wednesday during school holidays is a lot of fun while exploring and being creative at the Woodland Play area.

On Thursday 5th of April is the Woodland Adventure Day takes places in Fairy Wood. Spend a few hours, 10:30am – 14:30pm, outside to play some games, be creative and cook over the campfire. Admission is £12 per child.

 

 

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm

In the time from Saturday the 24th March to Saturday the 14th April you can take part in an Easter Egg Hunt at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm. In the mornings the children can join in painting an egg and in the afternoon the eggs will get hidden around the zoo so the children can look for them. Visitors can also take part in Giant Egg Rolling down Rhino Hill for free.

Over Easter weekend (30th and 31st March and 2nd April) the Meerkats will be participating in the Egg Hunt. If you want to paint and decorate eggs for the Meerkats, you can join the Easter Egg workshops. The decorated eggs will be placed in the Meerkat enclosure during the afternoon.

Painting a wooden egg costs £1.00 and painting and decorating an egg for the Meerkats costs £3.00.

Arnos Vale Cemetery

The timeless and beautiful story of the Nutbrown Hares has captured the hearts of children and adults alike for two decades. On Thursday the 29th of March visitors can explore the tale of the Nutbrown Hares attempting to measure their love for one another – told in the beautiful outdoors of the Cemetery.

Kids can collect Easter egg clues in order to solve a puzzle and then decorate an egg to take home. It’s perfectly suited for families who want to have fun together, play games and get to know the story of the Hares.

£5.00 is charged per child. It’s suitable for children 3+ and babies and under 3’s get free entry with a paying sibling. Only children require a ticket, so parents don’t need to purchase one. Booking in advance is recommended as the event is very popular!

Windmill Hill Farm provides you with great Easter Events through the holidays.

On the 29th March and the 5th April rom 10am to 12 noon you can join the special Easter Wild Outdoors Club with cool crafts, fun nature activities and many great games for the whole family! This event is suited for children ages 6 and up and £10.00 will be charged per child per session.

If your children are interested in using hammers, nails and saws, building dens and being creative with natural materials, the Woodland Tribe is the perfect event for you. It takes the best ideas from adventure playgrounds around the world and makes a great programme out of it. On the 3rd-4th April from 10am to 4pm you can take part in this great outdoor experience. Children have to be strictly over 6 years and accompanied by an adult old in order to participate. It costs £5.00 per child for 2 hours if you pay at reception on the day and £4.00 if you buy an Early Bird ticket in advance! Booking in advance is recommended!

Puxton Park

Puxton Park

Puxton Park provides you with a happy little farm over the Easter Break from the 31st March to the 1st April, starting at 9am. You get the chance to see baby lambs, pregnant ewes, cows taking care of their little calves and if you’re lucky you might even see a lamb being born!

Besides that the Park will also have lots of fun Easter activities for the whole family! Bottle feeding starts at 2:30 pm.Tickets can be purchased at the reception desk. You can see the prices here.

On the 7th-8th April a Dairy Weekend is hosted at the Puxton Park. You can meet new born spring calves, learn how to milk a cow and taste farm produced ice-cream and cheese. You will be guided through the event by Puxton Farm Herdsman Neil. The farm has a herd of 150 Jersey and Holstein cows that will continue calving throughout the Spring Season.

The activities start at 10am with a “Pampering Session”. During this session the lovely spring calves will be washed, brushed and clipped. At 11am there will be a “Meet and Greet Session” in the animal barn with the opportunity to stroke and brush young calves and even naming one. The “Calf Parade” is scheduled for 1pm. Take a walk over to the falconry arena if you want to see the Parade. During this Parade the Herdsman will give lots of information about the show calves and their characteristics. At 3:30pm a fun and educational dairy talk and milking demonstration can be found at the Milking Parlour. This is also the place where the Herdsman looks after the organic herd of pedigree Holstein and Jersey cows.

The last activity will be taking place at 4pm. The event will be finished with a “Calf-feeding Session” where visitors have the chance to feed the calves and learn about their lifestyle and diet.

Court Farm Country Park

Court Farm

Court Farm provides you with the opportunity to bottle feed lambs at 11.30am and 3 o’ clock each day all summer long. If you visit the farm in the spring you will see some of the 120 lambs which are born every year and if you’re lucky you might even see some of them being born!

The two pigs, Sally and Sue, came to the farm in 2012 and had their first baby piglets last summer in 2017. When you visit the farm, make sure to go to the pigsty so you don’t miss the sweet piglets. If you’re interested in seeing cute cows and calves, you should go to the barns.
