The Pogues live in Bristol on Thursday 26th June 2014 - Bristol Summer Series

Bristol is in for a real treat when Celtic punks The Pogues take to the stage at The Amphitheatre on Thursday 26th June 2014.

The event is part of the Bristol Summer Series, which is making its debut in the City and will see The Pogues perform on an open-air stage to crowds expected to hit over 5,000. The event coincides with the weekend of Glastonbury Festival – but organisers are still confident they'll pull in an impressive multitude of music-loving Bristolians. The Pogues will of course be performing some of their most famous hits, including the classics Fairytale of New York and Love You til the End.

The Pogues were one of the most radical bands of the 80s and defiantly demonstrated that the spirit of punk could live and thrive in traditional Irish folk music. They were famed for their wild, exciting and fresh acts, but lead singer Shane MacGowan's self-destructive streak and relentless spiral into drug and alcohol abuse meant the group were forced to disband in the mid-90s.

Now, however, they're back with a vengeance and more passionate and energetic than ever, complete with charismatic frontman McGowan leading the troupe – and they're back on the road and playing to sell-out crowds well over 20 years since their inception.
