A fine evening of diverse flavours and cocktail artistry in Bristol

Last Friday evening I attended the Cocktails in the City event at The Passenger Shed, where Bristol's finest cocktail establishments came together to showcase their mixology talents. These included Milk Thistle, Hyde & Co, Her Majesty's Secret Service, Pata Negra, Aluna and many more.

Launched in 2012, Cocktails in the City has welcomed over 35,000 guests through their doors, mixing up 110,000 cocktails in partnership with 200 bars across the country. Celebrating their fifth anniversary in 2017, Cocktails in the City now operates eight events in seven cities across the UK.

Not only were there cocktails on offer but masterclasses, tasters, games and food pairing were available to visitors. Add to this the option to take part in cocktail judging and the alcohol-free cocktails available to non-drinkers, the range of activities made for a diverse and welcoming event. Food was also served from firm favourites Bambalam and Eatchu.

Below is my top list of cocktails that I sampled throughout the evening:

Harvey Nichols

Harvey Nichols' Bathtub Gin offering

This was late summer in a glass! A rich berry infused cocktail with Bathtub Gin.

Aluna

Aluna's colour-changing martini

Served an impressive colour changing martini, not dissimilar from Parma Violets in flavour and complete with glitter and an edible flower

Playground Coffee House

Playground Coffee House presented me with a 'G and Tea'

Definitely more grown up, this gorgeous 'G & Tea'. With 6 o'clock Gin and Earl Grey tea

Her Majesty's Secret Service

The Twister was one of the night's most popular offerings

Twister was definitely a hit of the night, judging by the queues. Blended pear, strawberry and kiwi fruit, you almost forgot it was a cocktail!

Pata Negra

Pata Negra's twist on the classic Mojito

'Miel-ito' was a fun take on the classic but using Fino Sherry. This paired with slices of their beautiful jambon, was a delight!

With all cocktails at the same price and with so much on offer, under one roof, it really was value for money and made a great alternative to a night out.
