Tonight in Bristol: 7 Ways To Celebrate The Start Of The Christmas Holidays

Posted on: 20 Dec 2019

For some, today marks the last day of work, school or study before the Christmas holidays begin. Hooray!

Luckily, Bristol has come prepared. From film screenings at an Anglican Chapel to a party with beloved record shop, Idle Hands - tonight, we're spoilt for choice.

Still haven't made any plans? Not to worry. Here's seven ways to spend your final festive Friday night in the city.

See a Christmas film @ Arnos Vale Cemetery

Tonight, there’s not one – but two festive flicks screening at Arnos Vale Cemetery’s Anglican Chapel.

At 18:00, catch a screening of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Then, at 19:45, catch Die Hard. Don’t forget your torch and a fluffy blanket (it can get chilly in the Chapel!)

Party like it’s the 80s @ Fiddlers

It’s all about the nostalgia: from Rick Astley to Madonna, Fiddlers’ ‘80s Christmas party is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Blue eyeshadow and shoulder pads are encouraged, of course.

Or party with Idle Hands @ Cosies!

Bristol’s music scene wouldn’t be the same without Idle Hands.

A beloved record shop, it’s the stomping ground of Bristol’s electronic music greats. So, why not kick off the festivities with its Christmas party?

Tonight at Cosies!, catch Ok Williams, Yushh and more on the decks.

Get your (roller) skates on @ BUMP Rollerdisco

Exercising during the Christmas period doesn’t have to be a bore. Why not skate around BUMP’s festive Roller Rink in Millennium Square?

Open until 23:00, the BUMP Rollerdisco comes complete with resident DJs and a bar. Book your session online.

See some stand-up @ The Crafty Egg

Get giggling at The Crafty Egg tonight with an evening of stand-up comedy. Between 20:00 and 22:00, grab some booze from the bar and catch a rather lovely bunch of comics.

Get heavy @ The Exchange

Pop not really your thing? Looking for something a bit heavier?

Bristol’s prog metal band, Endeavor, are putting on a heavy metal Christmas club night at The Exchange. Get ready for metal bangers and a dash of festive rock.

Alternatively, catch some Norwegian black metal at The Gryphon, Bristol’s real ale and heavy metal pub.

Two parties, back to back @ The Lanes

There’s not one, but two parties are happening at The Lanes tonight.

First up, catch skiffle-pop trio Thrill Collins’ for a Christmas gig from 20:00. They’ve played Glastonbury, Bestival and loads more.

After that, stick around for Reggaeton Party’s Christmas Special: a party that mixes only the best of Reggae, Rap and Hip Hop.
