Posted on: 07 Jul 2025

The Lovely Eggs have announced a 20th Anniversary tour which will conclude on Saturday 1st November 2025 at Bristol's Trinity music venue.

The most inspiring bands are the ones that can create a world around themselves that is about far more than just the music. The artwork, lyrics, sounds and ethos all merge together perfectly to create its own universe, a secret club. The Lovely Eggs are one such band. And against all the odds, 2025 sees them celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band! Stubbornly and heroically independent, The Lovely Eggs have forged their own path and have achieved mainstream success without ever compromising their DIY ethics.

Who are The Lovely Eggs?

The Lovely Eggs are a two-piece band formed by married couple Holly Ross (vocals/guitar) and David Blackwell (drums) in Lancaster, England. Active since 2006, they’re known for their intense garage punk energy, lo fi production, and a strong DIY ethos .

Origins & DIY Ethos

Ross was previously in the all-female band Angelica, but after disillusionment with the “industry bullshit,” she and Blackwell returned to Lancaster to pursue music on their own terms.

They formed The Lovely Eggs in 2005, later launching their own label, Egg Records. Their career has been almost entirely self-managed—no label, booking agent, or manager.

The couple even take part in packaging, tour logistics, and creative ideas like scratch card giveaways with their vinyl records

Influences & Artistry

They draw inspiration from a mix of punk, indie, psychedelic, and surreal literature and art:

Musical influences: Velvet Underground, Bikini Kill, Can, Neu!, Black Flag, John Coltrane .

Artistic and literary inspirations: David Shrigley, Richard Brautigan, John Fowles, Edward Hopper, prophets of outsider and surrealist culture.

Band & Family Life

Remarkably, when their son was born, the duo didn’t pause—they seamlessly incorporated family life and parenting into touring. They even had the van re-seated so the baby could join them on the road .

They view it as a holistic shared life: music, parenting, art, touring—a single lifestyle .

Live Shows & Reputation

Their high energy, no nonsense performances—filled with explosive garage-punk, audience interaction, and witty lyricism—have earned them cult status across the UK and beyond .

They've performed dozens of BBC sessions, UK/US tours, and headline festivals; often selling out venues on sheer reputation .

Why They're Special

Independence: They’ve carved out success on their own terms, rejecting industry norms (“The music industry is smoke and mirrors” – Holly Ross) en.wikipedia.org.

Artistic Integrity: Everything they do—from music to TV, packaging to activism—is a cohesive artistic statement.

Community Spirit: Their commitment to Lancaster’s music scene, saving the Co-op, and nurturing grassroots culture reinforces their legacy.

From the band themselves:

“It’s not a career to us… it’s a lifestyle, a way of life, an ethos, a commitment to creating.”
— Holly Ross

In summary

The Lovely Eggs are not just musicians—they’re indie cultural champions, committed to creativity, community, and autonomy. Eggsistentialism stands as a testament to resilience and the power of DIY artistry.
