As always, this month sees some top theatre, music and comedy grace the Hippodrome stage, including the closing shows of Wicked's Bristol residency, Hairspray: The Musical and comedian John Bishop's Winging It tour. Below is a rundown of the highlights at the Bristol Hippodrome in March 2018.
Wicked - Finishes on Saturday 3rd March
This "gravity-defying Wizard of Oz prequel" (TimeOut London) is one of the most critically-acclaimed productions of the modern era, receiving over 100 major international awards, including two Olivier Audience Awards and winning 'Best West End Show' at the WhatsOnStage Awards on three occasions.
Wicked tells the incredible story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two young women who first meet as sorcery students. Their adventures see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West, among the show's hit songs such as Defying Gravity and March of the Witch Hunters. Wicked is now coming to the end of its tenure at the Bristol Hippodrome, with only three remaining shows on teh 2nd and 3rd of March. Act now and book your tickets before its too late!
Hairspray - Monday 5th until Saturday 10th March
The smash hit musical comedy Hairspray is coming to venues across the UK with a production guaranteed to have you dancing the night away!
It’s Baltimore, 1962 where Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for equality.
Cilla: The Musical - Tuesday 13th until Saturday 17th March
Cilla: The Musical is an all-new stage production of the life and times of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers. An adaptation of BAFTA Award winner Jeff Pope's critically acclaimed ITV series, Cilla tells the story of the teenage girl from Liverpool whose dreams of stardom propelled her to the very top. The show features an unbeatable music score - the ultimate soundtrack to the 60's that includes Cilla's greatest hits, as well as Twist and Shout by The Beatles, California Dreamin' by The Mamas and the Papas, and many more.
ABBA Mania - Sunday 25th March
With just over 40 years since ABBA famously won Eurovision, it's your chance to thank them for the music! ABBA Mania is widely regarded as the world's number one tribute to the band, featuring a special concert presentation celebrating the music of ABBA and reliving the special memories of when they ruled the airwaves. So dig out those platforms, dust down your flares and join in to enjoy all your favourite hits including Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Voulez Vous and many more!
John Bishop's Winging It - Wednesday 28th & Thursday 29th March
John Bishop is back in 2018 with his Winging It tour - a hilarious display of top quality comedy infused with a startlingly natural personality. The shows at The Bristol Hippodrome are two of the final three dates of the huge UK headline tour, which culminates in a performance in Bishop's hometown of Liverpool.
