Syndicate Nightclub To Close

Posted on: 18 Aug 2015

Bristol’s biggest nightclub is to close later this month after 9 years in operation and 3.5 million people through its doors.

**UPDATE : SWX Opening on 5th September 2015***

The giant space on Nelson Street will cease operations after its closing party on Saturday 22 August 2015. A statement posted on the official Facebook page read “As we're sure some of you may of heard or noticed we've been having work done on site over the last few weeks. We regret to inform you that after 9 amazing years, 3.5 million people through our doors and some of the most memorable parties in Bristol, we will be closing our doors for the last time. [sic]

It may well divide opinion among Bristol's revelers but there’s no denying that Syndicate has been a huge part of Bristol’s late-night scene, both figuratively and literally, for almost a decade. Not just a weekend venue, it was a hugely important student nightspot during the week and often attracted ‘major’ guests. Unfortunately, this is part of a continuing trend across the UK, which has seen the number of nightclubs halve over the past 10 years. This is unfortunately a decline felt across the whole Licensed sector.

It isn’t the end for the venue itself though – the statement goes on to say “We will be changing hands over this month to new owners. We wish every success to the new operators in the future.” Rumours we are hearing at 365 Bristol suggest that this will be reopening as an event space of sorts, with clubnights being held there still a distinct possibility.

That’s all the news we have for now but as soon as our suspicions are confirmed or denied we will report back.

For now lets all raise one last drink, probably a 2-4-1 VK Orange if we’re honest with ourselves, to Syndicate’s sticky carpets, colossal staircase and thumping sound system. RIP old friend.
