My Bristol Food - Francesca Andrews

Posted on: 03 Aug 2017

In our My Bristol Food series, we talk with some of the most prominent Bristol foodies around to get their take on what makes the city's culinary scene tick and also get their recommendations. This week we spoke with Francesca Andrews...

Who are you?

Hi I'm Francesca and apart from some brief stints away for uni and travelling, I've lived in Bristol my entire life. I've somehow avoided picking up the accent though!

Where are your most-visited food places in Bristol?

You can't beat Pieminister in St Nick's Market. I first discovered this gem at a stall at Glastonbury festival and have loved them ever since! I'm also a regular at Turtle Bay. It may be a chain but the food and cocktails are really good.

Where in Bristol has the...

Best burger: The Burger Joint – Any menu that's a checklist is a win for me.

Best pub: The Pump House – great bar snacks!

Best pizza: The Stable – make sure you get a pint of cider to wash it down.

Best for special occasions: The Ivy in Clifton.

Best brunch: Cox and Baloney on Gloucester Rd – make sure you try the scrambled tofu!

Best indie market: It's got to be St Nicks hasn't it?

Best afternoon tea: Technically South Gloucestershire, but Thornbury Castle do a great one. HUGE scones!

You’ve got 24 hours in Bristol to show some visitors around. What are you going to do?

We'd start with a good brunch on Gloucester Road and then walk in to town taking in all the wonderful street art that Bristol is renowned for. There's no point coming to Bristol without walking along the river to see the SS Great Britain or the Clifton Suspension Bridge either. After all that walking, it would be time to grab a few drinks and try and get in to some of secret speakeasy style bars which are dotted around Bristol.

Where else can we find you?
