Meet a giant Morph on the streets of Bristol this month!

Posted on: 14 Jun 2017

A three-metre ‘Mega Morph’ will be touring his hometown of Bristol this month to promote an exhibition to coincide with the 40th birthday of the beloved Aardman character.

Plasticine is a medium which generally reduces its characters to a diminutive size – but models of Morph, who appears in real life as roughly the height of a normal cup of coffee, tend to be pretty accurate. And whilst it is true that the best things come in small packages, a new venture from Aardman will celebrate the massive personality of Peter Lord and David Sproxton’s formative troublemaker on the occasion of his 40th birthday…

Appearing across Bristol throughout June will be Mega Morph, a three-metre tall recreation of the plasticine scallywag will pound the pavements of his hometown, taking photos with fans and hailing a surprise birthday exhibition to be held at Cribbs Causeway.

‘Morph: Still Naughty at 40’ will take over the Gromit: Unleased shop at Cribbs between the 14th July and 5th September, a range of exciting exhibits, including a showcase of 20 original Morph sculptures designed by Morph’s Peter Lord, an interactive green screen, the chance to create your own animations and even make your own Morph! Entrane to the exhibition is free, with a suggested £2 donation to Wallace an Gromit’s Grand Appeal. All profits from the exclusive merchandise on sale will also go to the charity.

Co-creators of Morph and co-founders of Aardman, David Sproxton and Peter Lord (above) said:  “We never would have imagined 40 years ago that we’d have a big exhibition celebrating the world of Morph in his magnificent home city of Bristol.”

“For a lot of people, Morph inspires real childhood nostalgia and yet he’s also moved with the times; Morph is a 21st century chap with his own emoji set, and has an emerging young fan base generated from his very own online series, so the exhibition really is for everyone.”

“Mega Morph is really something else too, and seeing him tower over bystanders is something we’re really looking forward to while he makes his way around Bristol!”

Mega Morph will be making the following appearances:

  • Outside Bristol children’s hospital from 13th June
  • Outside Royal West Academy from 15th June
  • By Museum Square, Harbourside from 20th June
  • By Clifton Suspension Bridge from 24th June
  • Outside Aardman HQ from 29th June
  • Outside The Mall at Cribbs Causeway from 10th July
