Posted on: 10 Nov 2018Ballad singer and English folk song performer Martin Carthy and his daughter Eliza Carthy will be live at The Station in Bristol on Tuesday 2nd May 2019.
Martin is a legendary ballad singer and ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist who has influenced generations of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, while Eliza has been twice-nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and a multiple-award winner at the BBC Radio Two Folk award 2016.
For more than 50 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best-loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene but also far beyond it. Martin has recorded 10 solo albums, of which the much anticipated Waiting for Angels (Topic TSCD527) was the latest. Whether in the folk clubs, on the concert stage or making TV appearances – there are few roles that Martin Carthy hasn’t played.
Eliza Carthy is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation. She has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists including Paul Weller, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Patrick Wolf and Bob Neuwirth. She determined to bring folk music to the ears of a new generation, making it relevant and dazzling them with boundary-crossing performances. Eliza is also patron to Cheltenham and Whitby folk festivals. Whatever Eliza turns her hand to, it’s sure to be a success.
