20 years ago in April 2006, a club night in Bristol launched upstairs at the Hatchet pub in Bristol which had one simple rule - only female vocalists. It gained some national exposure, had guest DJs including Manda Rin (Bis), Sarah Blackwood (Dubstar / Client) and Gareth Paisey (Los Campesinos!) plus it even spawned a comic book series and graphic novel called Phonogram!
On Saturday 25 April 2026 Lipstick On Your Collar returns for a one-off 20th anniversary. Original LOYC DJ Gareth Go Ape will be joined by DJ Riot Paula for a nostalgic afternoon of female vocals fun. There won't be any photos put on MySpace, you can't smoke inside the venue and there won't be a free compilation CD, but we hope it will still have the spirit and soul of those special nights in the mid 00s!
The Hatchet no longer put on club events, so this anniversary event will instead take place at Zed Alley, Bristol, BS1 4UA. And instead of 10pm-2am, it will be a daytime disco, running 2pm-7pm, so you can drink, dance and be in bed by 10pm!
