LGBT Poet Andrea Gibson comes to Bristol
Posted on: 10 Dec 2018Critically acclaimed American poet Andrea Gibson is touring the UK in May with their new work ‘Lord of the Butterflies’.
Winner of the first ever Women of the World Poetry Slam back in 2008, Gibson remains one of the most captivating performers in the spoken word poetry scene today. Their poetry focuses on gender norms, politics, social reform, and the struggles that LGBTQ people face in today’s society.
Throughout their career, Gibson has released four full-length collections of poems and an illustrated book of their most memorable quotes, as well as seven heartfelt albums.
Regularly selling out 500+ capacity standing room only venues, it’s clear that Gibson is immensely popular within the art form, creating a comfortable, heart-warming space for listeners.
Gibson’s newest literary masterpiece ‘Lord of the Butterflies’ was released last month, and features an abundance of works celebrating activism, love, gender, loss, family and more. While rioting against gun violence, homophobia and white supremacy, Gibson celebrates gender expansion, queer love and the will to stay alive.
