Getting to Know Daz and his Rock 4 Charity events in Bristol
Posted on: 27 Aug 2014This week our Getting to Know Bristol features Daz, a.k.a Darren Sims, and his Rock 4 Charity events which continues its great fundraising efforts with an annual concert at The Colston Hall this year on 31 October 2014. Here's some info!
1. When was Daz's Rock 4 Charity set up and what are it’s aims and objectives?
I have been organising big charity concerts since 2007 initially they were called Rock ‘n’ Raise then I changed the name to Daz’s Rock 4 Charity in 2010. It’s aims are to help local charities near wherever the concerts are based which then in turn get local people and communities involved.
2. Are you from Bristol?
Yes I am a Bristol lad, born in Southmead hospital and my childhood was spent in Windmill Hill and Bedminster.
3. How’s it going?
Really well, extremely busy with my concerts and attached fundraising, this year has seen Daz’s Rock 4 Charity concerts in Weston, on the Grand Pier, Hull City Hall and Leicester O2 Academy and the upcoming Colston Hall one on Friday 31st October, Halloween night.
4. How can people get involved?
They can contact me, there is a very, very long waiting list to perform at the concerts, but volunteers are always welcomed, email daz@daz.uk.com or ring 07976 629132, via facebook www.facebook.com/dazsrock4charity. We also always need sponsors to help us with the overheads of putting on such concerts, so any businesses please get in touch, there are several sponsorship packages available to suit all sized businesses!
5. How do you find running charity events/fundraisers in Bristol?
Hard work but very rewarding when I meet some of the people that have benefitted from our work.
6. Where do you like to eat out in Bristol?
The best Cafe is Parade Cafe, Gilda Parade, Whitchurch, nowhere beats it as for other food places I’m fairly cheap and cheerful as I don’t get loads of time to stop and eat, so most Wetherspoons are great value and good quality, then usually when going back to digs after a gig I like to grab takeaway from Arches Fish Bar, Gloucester Rd or Rita’s in Stokes Croft.
7. What's your favourite place in Bristol?
The suspension bridge and surrounding areas are beautiful. The bridge is the number one icon for me in Bristol and I also play Saturday football on the Downs.
8. Where do you see Daz's Rock 4 Charity in 5 years time?
I’d like to see it continue growing and already have some big plans which I’m trying to put in place, hopefully the lovely Bristol public will support me and help me keep raising the money I do for such worthy local causes.
9. What advice would you give to similar organisations in need of funding, volunteers or extra members?
Don’t ever give up, it’s very hard work but all the countless hours of behind the scenes are priceless when you see what happens with the monies that are raised.
10. If you were Mayor of Bristol for a day which one thing would you change?
I would like to put on the biggest free concert Bristol has ever seen with some big names and help put Bristol on the map even more than it already is. I love Bristol and my fellow Bristolians!
